Fringe ’18: Special Performances

August 3 – 27

We are open every day 1pm until 5am with 9 shows per day!

This is a list of all Fringe shows listed under ‘Jazz Bar Music’. For a full list of all of the Independent Fringe shows hosted by The Jazz Bar, please visit this page, or view our Venue Page on the Fringe Festival website, here.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival website here. Please note that The Jazz Bar cannot print tickets and have no physical tickets to sell from the bar. If a show is not sold-out, you will be able to pay for tickets as you enter (cash only, no card payments). This is usually very limited entry and so we strongly advise purchasing tickets in advance. There may even be an online-only discount!

*Helpful tip* – When collecting tickets purchased online, you can avoid the long queues of the Royal Mile Fringe Box Office by picking up your tickets from any ‘collection point’ venue, such as C-Venue (venue number 34) which is right next door to The Jazz Bar!

Late night performances – Please note, as we are open from 1pm all the way to 5am, we consider each day as beginning and ending at 5am. For example, a performance listed as any time between 00:00 and 05:00 on ‘Tuesday’ will refer to a performance that is technically in the early hours of Wednesday morning. If you aren’t sure, please see our timetable layout.

Age limits: 5 years + until 8pm, 16+ from 8pm to 10pm, 18+ only after 8pm (listed along-side each show’s details)

These shows are organised by The Jazz Bar, featuring some of the very best musicians of Edinburgh and Scotland, playing alongside international VIP guests. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Fringe Festival website, listed under ‘Jazz Bar Music’, here. Special Performances are shown in red on the programme timetable.

Every Saturday at The Jazz Bar, a different hand-picked selection of five excellent jazz players meets on stage for the first time (hence the name) – and plays with no rehearsal, and not even a set list! It’s always a ‘surprise’ line-up – even for the players. We’re bringing the ‘WPQ’ to the Fringe Festival for the first time (and for one night only!) to showcase some of our incredible local jazz musicians and give you a taste of what our busy programme sounds like year-round.
Sunday 5th
19:00 – 20:00 £6 (£5) Ages 5+

For one night only The Jazz Bar’s own Big Band comes to the Fringe Festival! Wonderful sounds from this great resident band with a huge brass section! It’s a variable line-up of top-class pro players, who travel in from Glasgow, Borders, Perth, Fife (and Edinburgh!), to participate in this outstanding gig. There’s just nowhere else you can hear this standard of regular Big Band playing. Co-led by sax player Keith Edwards, the personnel changes weekly, as does their selection of fantastic arrangements, many of which are imported direct from Los Angeles by the band’s ex-LA bassist and co-leader Erik Lars Hansen.
Monday 27th
Open rehearsal 20:30 – 21:30, Full Performance 22:00 – 23:30 £7 (£5) Ages 18+

Open Stage ‘Jazz Jam’ where our excellent House Trio backs all kinds of surprise jazzy guests dropping in to play – and we’ve no idea who’s coming in until tonight! If you want to play, turn up with your instrument and ask for a place on the evening’s list of guest players.
Monday 27th
00:00 [Midnight] – 01:30 £4 (£3) Ages 18+

Caution! – Due to our late opening hours, our days don’t end until 5am, so a show listed at 2am on a Friday is technically in the early hours of Saturday!

2am – 5am, £6/£5 Ages 18+
