THE JAZZ ‘TREE OF LIFE’ POSTER
It’s on the wall inside the Jazz Bar and always attracts lots of attention. This is an illustrated history of jazz starting from its Blues origins and showing its various developmental phases, all with photos of the prime movers. You can buy a print of this amazing poster directly from the author Peter von Bartkowski, in Germany. It’s surprisingly cheap and he’ll mail it straight to you in a cardboard tube. If you contact him please mention where you saw his poster!
AND when you receive it, the best place to put it is … on your toilet wall!
Here’s some fantastic light relief! These are short 3 or 4 minute animations where ‘robot’ figures ‘speak’ a script written to illustrate some topic (you can make these yourself – see the link!). All-time favourites are the ones on ‘Sound Guy vs Jazz Drummer’, ‘Two Drummers Auditioning for Jazz College’ and the three parts of ‘Tristano’. Absolutely brilliant!
A YouTube ‘Shred’ is a music video where someone has expertly overdubbed some REALLY AWFUL playing, perfectly synch’d with the video, to create hilarious scenes that will have you falling off your chair! There are hundreds of these on YouTube, in all genres, some truly cringing. Here’s some selected (totally brilliant!) Jazz howlers:
Keith Jarrett (playing Chopsticks!)
Check out this great list of musician jokes, covering EVERY instrument!
RECOMMENDED NEARBY RESTAURANT: SPOON
We heartily recommend our favourite local eatery – SPOON. It’s just one block South on Nicolson Street, directly opposite the Festival Theatre, on first floor level. A very nice selection of daily specials and really well created dishes, in an unpretentious and low-pressure environment. Nice! Book your table, call 0131 623 1752
