SPECIAL JAZZ BAR FEATURES AT THE EDINBURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL 2017!

Open every day 1pm until 5am with 9 shows per day!

It’s the biggest festival in the world and we’re putting forward a huge dose of live music 9 shows per day throughout August. With a range of Jazz, Blues, Funk and Folk, we’ve got something for everyone with accomplished musicians from all over the world.

Tickets purchased in advance must be collected from the Fringe Box Office (on the Royal Mile) or from a Fringe ‘collection point’ such as our neighbouring venue C-Venues.

Age limits: 5 years + until 8pm, 16+ from 8pm to 10pm, 18+ only after 8pm

SPECIAL PERFORMANCES

Monday 7th     10pm – 11.30pm, £8/£5

KING LOUIS & THE PRIMAS

Madcap, non-stop party frontman Dave Batchelor (trombone/voc) brings in his hugely entertaining band playing the music of jump/jive 50s Vegas king Louis Prima (‘Jungle Book’ theme!). His all-star 6-piece features harmonica wiz Fraser Speirs, Fat Sam’s Band leader Hamish McGregor (sax), top trumpeter Colin Steele, Duncan Findlay (guitar), Robert Pettigrew (piano), Ed Kelly (bass) and Aldo Morrow (drums).

Friday 11th       Midnight – 1.30am, £6/£5

AKI & THE LIONS PLAY JAZZ

Aki Remally and the Lions play jazz as these local funksters branch out into new territory, featuring Richard Harrold (keys), Jonny White (sax), Tom Wilkinson (bass) and Jamie Graham (drums).

Thursday 24th 4pm – 5pm, £5/£4

BEYOND THE BLUE by Rain Reserve

Rain Reserve – a songwriting partnership forged in the wilds of Scotland, brings together established acoustic performers. Edinburgh native and smooth jazz operator Lorna Reid combines forces with dustbowl blues Glaswegian John Alexander.

 

FRIDAY & SATURDAY LATE NIGHTS

Friday 4th        2am – 5am, £6/£5   NICOLE & THE BACKUP CREW

Lively and soulful blues party, paying homage to the most important women in blues history and featuring stunning singer Nicole Smit.

Saturday 5th    2am – 5am, £6/£5   JAMBOUREE

This impressive 5 piece of multi-instrumentalists melds instrumental Jazz Fusion and fresh Funk with Hip-Hop and World Music inflections. Expect dynamic improvisation and infectious polyrhythms from sax/trumpet horn section, keys, electric bass and drums.  ‘Very, very groovy’ (Stephen Duffy, Jazz House, BBC Radio Scotland).

Friday 11th       2am – 5am, £6/£5   AKI & THE LIONS

HEAVY FUNK DISCOTHEQUE with Aki Remally and the Lions, featuring Richard Harrold (keys), Jonny White (sax), Tom Wilkinson (bass) and Jamie Graham (drums). Exactly as the name suggests, we’ll be delivering a super spangly set with some Parliament-Funkadelic, Rick James, James Brown and some hard to find gems.

Saturday 12th   2am – 5am, £6/£5   JAMBOUREE

Brass Gumbo provide a huge dose of funk and jazz, with a distinctly New Orleans flavour – mixing upbeat, highly danceable second line style tunes and plenty of funked-up covers of everyone from The Beatles and Led Zeppelin to Basement Jaxx and Daft Punk with buckets of energy and a wall of brass!

Friday 25th      2am – 5am, £6/£5   COW COW BOOGIE

Edinburgh based band who play 1940s/1950s Western Swing/Country & Jump Blues, that’ll get your feet tappin’ and the party started with outstanding vocals from Nicole Smit.

Saturday 26th  2am – 5am, £6/£5   THE SHIVERIN’ SHEIKS

High-energy, dancefloor-filling Glasgow 4-piece with guitars, double bass and drums plus 3-part vocals, delivering pumping 50s/60s RnB, Rockabilly, Gospel, and Doo Wop – with a touch of Gypsy Swing.

REGULAR WEEKDAY LATE NIGHTS

Mondays        2am – 5am, £4/£3   GLAMOUR & THE BAYBES

Keep that weekend party going! Come down and boogie with this high-octane electric 6-piece with punchy sax/trumpet horn lines, delivering high end funk-fusion versions of Nirvana, Tower of Power, Massive Attack, Snarky Puppy & more, fronted by the larger-than-life manic sax/vocals of Angus Munro: ‘Soulful and outrageous … the largest vocal range I’ve ever heard!’ (Scotsman)

Tuesdays        2am – 5am, £4/£3   101st AIRBORNE

Soaring guitar and driving funk rhythms from brilliantly creative guitarist Aki Remally and his 4-piece Funk/Soul groove band (named after Jimi Hendrix’s US Army unit!)

Wednesdays   2am – 5am, £4/£3   SWAMPFOG

Fat horns and heavy riffs, with a healthy serving of New Orleans grooves, from Tom Pickles’ 6-piece with sax, trumpet & trombone horns plus Jed Potts (gtr/voc), bass and drums: a mix of originals, classics and a few unexpected covers.

Thursdays      2am – 5am, £4/£3   FUTURE HEROES

Superbly creative guitarist Aki Remally fronts this brilliant Groove/Funk 6-piece, with funky horn section of Jonny White (sax) and trumpet ace Chuck Dearness.

Sundays          2am – 5am, £4/£3   THE SUNDAY SINNERS

Dance to dynamic Funk/Soul grooves from in-the-pocket 5-piece band with outstanding vocals from Fiona Lynch.
