Santa Šillere is a jazz singer and composer from Latvia with a colorful vocal range and a knack for storytelling. As a young generation musician, she brings her own perspective to the genre, blending the rich traditions of jazz with modern influences to create a sound that is uniquely her own. In October 2023, Santa released her debut album “Other Ways” which has been nominated for Latvian Radio and Latvian Television Culture award in category ‘Debut of the year’ and has been brightly reviewed in Baltic and Europe jazz media. Her composition “Crystal light” was also included in Jazz in Latvia selection CD for the biggest jazz tradefair in Europe “Jazzahead” 2024.

Eloi (Ee – loy), are an Edinburgh based 7-piece future-jazz group. Alongside numerous sold-out headline Edinburgh gigs, they have supported bands such as Surprise Chef at Glasgow’s Broadcast, alongside local Scottish groups including Grace and the Flatboys, Dinosaur 93 and Nani. In 2022, they secured a slot at Edinburgh’s Hidden Door Festival through the Edinburgh-based community radio station EHFM, and also hold a monthly show on the station called Eloi Selects. Inspired by the likes of Nubiyan Twist, Ezra Collective and Hiatus Kaiyote, their debut EP ‘Maya’ was released in 2022

The Faye Four

The Faye Four are a 1940s-style Jazz Quartet. The band play an array of classic jazz standards with emphasis on vintage-vocals, punchy dynamics and solos. Players Lewis Docherty (guitar), Richard Anderson (double bass), Chris Dickie (drums) and Alice Faye (vocalist) met at a jam in Glasgow and began to play together under Alice Faye’s solo project for her original songs. The band’s genesis is based on their shared love of swing, blues and manouche jazz, hence this subsidiary project ‘The Faye four’, where the band can play their favourite jazz standards and share their other musical joys!

Before Louis Prima, Vegas was a seedy gambling town known mostly for its mafia connections. After his show revolutionised the citys entertainment it became the number one showbiz destination. Frank, Sammy, Marilyn, Cary, Dean, they all came to see Louis Prima, along with the crowds who queued round the block till six in the morning. In this tribute, you’ll hear all the great songs and all the fun and gags and nonsense as well. Trombonist and singer Dave Batchelor leads a specially assembled all-star band in a loving recreation of the Louis Prima Vegas Show.

Colin Steele Quintet plays Miles Davis

An avid fan of Davis, Colin Steele is the master when it comes to paying homage to musical legends. With thrilling empathy, phenomenal solos and driving musical energy, Steele’s trumpet fronts a quintet covering classic arrangements of Miles Davis’ seminal albums of the 50s and 60s, especially Milestones and Kind of Blue. FOUR trumpets, FOUR trombones, FIVE saxes and FOUR rhythm! It’s a variable line-up of top-class pro players, who travel in from around Scotland to participate in this outstanding gig. Nowhere else can you hear this standard of regular Big Band playing. Led by saxophonist Keith Edwards, the personnel changes weekly, as does their selection of fantastic arrangements.

Join us for our first Hogmany as The Jazz Bar CIC!

Join us for a pre-midnight jazz set bringing in the bells with a special selection of standards from our Jazz Bar house band featuring the very special guests of Canadian guitar legend Kevin Barrett and local hero Susanna Macdonald on vocals.

The jazz portion of the evening lasts until the bells where the tables and chairs leave and the venue becomes a funk nightclub until 4am!

Access information

We are a historical basement venue and as such – the only access is via two flights of stairs with no disability ramps or lifts.

The venue cap for this event is 100 people and we will have seats for 60, seating is unreserved and limited, please arrive at doors in order to have the best chance of securing a seat.
