2pm – THE MELLOTONES TRIO

Our most loyal and reliable audience is undoubtedly the Saturday 2pm Mellotones crowd. Every week like clockwork we see the same friendly faces, getting together for a chat and some swinging trad, and they have become a close family to the venue. It’s an afternoon of true community and we are deeply grateful for the support that we have had from this group over the years. The Mellotones Trio is Alan Anderson (piano), Jimmy Taylor (bass/vocals) and Dave Swanson (drums), and here is a clip of their previous line-up featuring Bob Stewart on drums.

 5.30pm – A JAZZ BAR TRIO

With so many astounding musicians in Edinburgh it can be difficult to keep up. Sometimes it’s good to have a ‘man on the inside’ and for us that’s bassist Ed Kelly. As jazz is all about improvisation, we love throwing together new groups to see what happens. To help us with this, Ed pulls together locals and international guests alike, keeping our programme fresh and vibrant and drawing in musicians who may have missed out on our programming otherwise. A true guardian of The Jazz Bar and of the scene throughout Edinburgh. Here he is performing with Tom Davis (guitar) and Davide Rinalde (drums) – this album is also available for digital download here.

And as an added bonus, here is Ed Kelly, Pete Johnstone, and the one and only Bill Kyle performing back in 2015:

DONATE

You can continue to support us and the professional musicians who are struggling right now, by donating what you might usually spend on an entry fee or a drink, or any other amount that you wish. Professional musicians and all hospitality/event staff are facing an incredibly difficult time, having seen months of steady work disappear over-night. Any donations would be extremely appreciated to help us to continue to pay our staff through our closure and support our local event staff community in any way that we can.
