PRUDENT PRIMATE
Another from the fusion side of the archives, Bristol’s Prudent Primate describe themselves as ‘cosmic space-funk’ – a psychedelic concoction of jazz/funk originals travelling through tight, minimal grooves, to beautiful melancholic solos, and all the way to hectic, progressive musical soundscapes. Prudent Primate have been fast making a name for themselves on the fantastic Bristol Modern Jazz scene, headlining major venues including Mr. Wolfs, The Leftbank, No.1 Harbourside and The Canteen, as well as touring throughout the UK in venues such as ours and at the iconic Ronnie Scotts.
Featuring dazzling synth rhythms, infectious sax riffs, gritty guitar solos, punky anarchistic drums and time-signatures, while other times sliding into more subtle, gospel-like chords, Prudent Primate create tangible, colourful and encompassing soundscapes that break apart standard song-structures and allow the music to roam openly. At times poignant and others straight up chaos, this band are consistently exciting, with fascinating original compositions that captivate without a single dull note.
