20 years ago, on the 1st of July 2005, Bill Kyle first opened The Jazz Bar in Edinburgh, starting a legacy of an institution that has hosted countless gigs and created many memories for people in Edinburgh.
Coincidentally, The Jazz Bar was reopened as a CIC (Community Interest Company) through the efforts of its staff and music community a year ago, on the 1st of July 2019.
We are celebrating both of these dates with a special gig featuring musicians who have played at the venue throughout the years, as well as those who have developed and honed their skills within its walls — and paying tribute to Bill Kyle and his efforts in establishing the venue all those years ago, without whom Edinburgh would be fundamentally worse off musically and culturally.
The gig will feature Jazz Bar mainstays:
Colin Steele – trumpet
Phil O’Malley – trombone
Stewart Forbes – saxophone
Pete Johnstone – piano
Ed Kelly – double bass
Tom Gordon – drums
Playing standards over two hours, followed by our regular open Tuesday jam.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the venue over the last two decades, as well as to those who helped us reopen and continue to support the music economy in Edinburgh and Scotland.
