The Jazz Bar’s all-inclusive jam session is back! On the first Thursday of every month, the Jazz Bar’s team of regular house musicians are here to welcome and guide any and all musicians, genres and abilities into the Edinburgh music scene for an evening of funky tunes and the opportunity to meet artists of all shapes and sizes!
At the end of the jam, the house band will play a set to close off the night.

Handyside and Orr brings together the artistic stylings of some of Scotland’s finest young jazz musicians into a into a new quintet.
This new project is brimming with invention and showcases the groups individual improvisational and compositional talents, whilst honouring their collective study of the jazz tradition performing the original compositions of the band members.
The group features long time collaborator, Rosalind Orr on Alto Saxophone (SNJO, James brown is Annie, Plant Science, Rosalind Orr Trio), Aaron Singh on Trombone (SNJO, Saltire Street Band), Ali Watson on upright bass (Matt Carmichael, Harben Kay), Finlay Mayers-Porras (Plant Science, Stanley Welch, Milele Collective) on Drums and Alex Handyside on Guitar (Plant Science, Stanley Welch, Milele Collective, Rosalind Orr Trio).
As a group, they explore the sound world of modern, cutting edge jazz, whilst paying homage to the works of greats such as Jan Garbarek, Brian Blade and Bill Frisell.

LEGIT Sessions — curated by Ben Mac (Guitar/Bass) — is a contemporary live music series dedicated to presenting jazz in a progressive and highly creative context.
Founded on the principles of spontaneity, collaboration, and exceptional musicianship, the series brings together leading performers to form fluid ensembles within the broad framework of jazz, allowing for a high degree of artistic freedom and real-time interaction.
Drawing on a wide range of styles — including bebop, gypsy jazz, contemporary/nu jazz, and free group improvisation — LEGIT Sessions emphasises versatility, sensitivity, and depth of musical communication. Each performance is shaped organically by the musicians involved, resulting in work that is both immediate and distinctive.

The Foo Birds are an independent five-piece band whose unique musical partnership has been evolving for over a decade. Aaron Singh Trombone Ensemble

The Aaron Singh Trombone Ensemble is a new contemporary group that formed towards the end of 2025 in Glasgow.
The ensemble brings together some of Scotland’s most exciting trombonists and rhythm section, performing original music by Aaron as well as music from the likes of Rick Taylor, Kieran McLeod and Miles Davis.

Paying tribute to one of her jazz idols, Marianne and her band bring an exquisite show to the jazz bar, a live interpretation of the Amy Winehouse songbook. Some of Scotlands leading musicians pay tribute to one of jazz’s greatest writers and tenor players.
Martin Kershaw has been a central figure on the vibrant Scottish jazz scene for some 20 years, in constant demand as a performer, composer/arranger and educator.
As leader and sideman he has performed with an incredible array of top national and international musicians, and has held the Lead Alto chair in the prestigious Scottish National Jazz Orchestra since 2004.
Along with a band of some of Scotlands leading established jazz musicians he will be paying tribute to one of the greatest Jazz musicians of the genre Sonny Rollins who sadly recently passed away.
He will be joined by:

Bodega Latina: Latin Season Part 3: GUSTAVO ANDRADE + LAS CHANCHAS

For the third instalment of Latin Season at The Jazz Bar we are going down the streets of Rio for a Brazilian special.
And the original Brazilian explosion that is Gustavo Andrade & The Brasukas are back!
This will be their third visit, and previously they have packed out the Jazz Bar and led a full and ecstatic crowd in song to some of the best in all things Brazilian from Samba to Axé to Forro to Rio Jazz Funk.
And with 11 performers to their name they pack a stage while belting out a Brazilian wall of sound that explodes with colour and rhythm.

This crew have been creating some big waves down south ever since they got together just last year.
