Paul Towndrow is an internationally renowned Glaswegian saxophonist & composer specialising in syncretic musical forms including the fusion of jazz with traditional Celtic music, Indian music, and free improvisation. Here he appears in a comparatively down-scaled, yet equally energetic trio format featuring two of his long term co-conspirators, Alyn Cosker (Drums)and Pete Johnstone (Organ). The group has performed at both sides of the Atlantic, including appearances in New York, London and beyond. In 2023 Paul celebrates the release of a new album, ‘‘Outwith The Circle” which features the trio alongside special guests including vocalist Eddi Reader, piper Ross Ainslie, and guitarist Davie Dunsmuir.

After spending much of 2022 on tour around the UK, TJB are back for a rare Friday night gig in their home town playing the roots of jazz from New Orleans, St. Louis and Chicago.

Grace & The Flat Boys are an Edinburgh based 5-piece playing their own fusion of Jazz, RnB, Rock and Soul. They’ve been gigging since late 2018 and released their debut EP ‘Wheels’ in September 2021. Purveyors of full-fat, calorie-laden, whipped up funk ‘n’ soul, James Brown Is Annie met in a piano bar, rehearse next to a sex shop, and take their name from an Eddie Murphy Saturday Night Live sketch. The Scottish sextet’s two albums (JBiA I and JBiA II) were produced by original Average White Band members Molly Duncan (2015) and Hamish Stuart (2018), the group gaining a BBC Radio Scotland ‘Single Of The Week’ award for the song, Get Up To Get Down. The line-up of  this band, uncommon in jazz, consists of pianist, composer and bandleader Raf Ferrari, bass player Andrea Colella, drummer Claudio Sbrolli and cellist Vito Stano. Their music ranges from jazz to contemporary, from classical to funk and free pop-rock. The first suite, comprised of four original compositions, are representations that Raf ascribes to himself and his musicians. The other suite, “The Seasons”, is divided into four tracks dedicated to the seasons, but linked musically through a single song without interruption.

Dick Lee formulated Dr. Lee’s Prescription in 2012 to play his own compositions and since then has dispensed his music at venues such as the Edinburgh Jazz Bar, the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival and Glasgow Society of Musicians, culminating in several performances of the specially commissioned piece The Games at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. After a break of a few years in which all the band members have pursued their own projects the band is together again.

Ali celebrates one of her firm favourites ‘Queen of Loch Lomond ‘ Maxine Sullivan. A rare vocalist who had a superb voice throughout her long career. Tonight Ali and her band ( Paul Harrison, Roy Percy, Colin Steele, Jimm Drummond) explore Maxine’s long career from youthful zest to steadfast maturity alongside some of the John Kirby repertoire and a couple of surprise Robert Burns songs!

Fronted by the high-energy vocals of Kat Brooks, The Fresh Squeeze mix up funk classics and up-tempo R&B ranging from the 70s to the present day. Backed up by Alex James (guitar) and a solid rhythm section made up of Ali Tod (bass), Michael Watson (keys) and Carter Skillicorn (drums), there’s no doubt you won’t be spending the night in your seat.

Each week a top-drawer piano trio, led by bassist Ed Kelly, is joined by a special guest spot. Saxophonists, guitarists, trumpeters and singers showcase their talents in a broad range of jazz styles. From swing, blues, bossa, trad and modern, this is a variable early-evening session of intimate and enjoyable jazz.

Every Saturday, a different hand-picked selection of five excellent jazz players meets on stage for the first time (hence the name) – to play with no rehearsal, and no set list! Always a fresh line-up.

Mixing a live latin rhythm section, psychedelic guitar solos and mesmerizing Peruvian melodies, the 7-piece Los Chichanos perform “chicha” music or Jungle Cumbia. This style of South American music was written to make bodies move and minds travel. Jungle sounds, guitar-driven songs, vintage organ leads and hot Latin percussion.

Held on the last Sunday of each month, award-winning vocalist Ali Affleck brings a fiery New Orleans passion with heavy doses of old-time pop and deep digs into the rarest of trad and blues. Hot roots, blues, prohibition-era jazz, and cheeky Creole tunes from the finest swing bands around. Each month sees both new friends and old; special guests and long-time favourites of the swing dance community – the perfect end to the month!

Neo-soul, trip-hop grooves and re-edited classics are delivered to your ears, feet and hips by this vocals-fronted band with a rhythm section to die for. Guaranteed to keep your feet moving and your jaw dropped. Featuring hot vocals from Fiona Lynch, funky guitar from Aki Remally, and dope grooves from Jim Drummond (drums) and Dougie Coulter (bass).

Open Rehearsal 8-9pm, full gig from 9.15-10.45pm

FOUR trumpets, FOUR trombones, FIVE saxes and FOUR rhythm! It’s a variable line-up of top-class pro players, who travel in from around Scotland to participate in this outstanding gig. Nowhere else can you hear this standard of regular Big Band playing. Led by saxophonist Keith Edwards, the personnel changes weekly, as does their selection of fantastic arrangements.

Alongside those famous and enduring standards like Honeysuckle Rose, Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Your Feet’s Too Big, this top notch four piece will be opening the books on some of Fats lesser known gems including but most certainly not limited to ‘How Can You Face Me?’, ‘Georgia Bo-Bo’, ‘Keep A Song In Your Soul’ and ‘Up Jumped You With Love’. Music that’s as good for your soul as it is for your feet.  Featuring John Burgess (Saxophones and Clarinet), Brian Kellock (Piano), Roy Percy  (String bass), Tom Bancroft  (Drums).

Superbly creative guitarist Aki Remally (guitar/vocals) fronts this five-piece funk monster, playing tasty covers and heavy jams. Classic ‘Hard Bop’ quintet featuring charts by Keith Edwards (sax) and Donald Corbett (trumpet/flugelhorn) with stellar rhythm section of Steve Moore (piano), Ed Kelly (bass) and Max Popp (drums). Their sets include original compositions, gems from British Jazz legends Tubby Hayes and Dundee’s own Jimmy Deuchar, as well as hip US jazzers such as Duke Pearson, Harold Mabern and Cedar Walton.
