Charlie Wood is a singer/songwriter and keyboardist whose work incorporates elements of jazz, blues, traditional r&b and popular music. In his early twenties he joined the band of legendary blues guitarist Albert King, with whom he toured the US and Europe. Since then he has Branched out in his own solo career with various residencies and shows throughout the world. Wood has also become a sought-after and highly original musical arranger, with recent works performed by the BBC Big Band, the RTÉ Orchestra, the Brodsky String Quartet, the Carducci String Quartet & others. Tonight his band features Mario Caribé on bass & Doug Hough on drums.

Raf Ferrari is a jazz-rock pianist who “thinks” like a classical composer.
His musical universe is lyrical and inspired, elegant and sophisticated, made of contrasts and dualities through an original mix of melody, rhythm and improvisation. Lolita Jackson, a Manhattan-based vocalist, has been a musician since childhood. Originally a classically trained bass clarinetist and tenor saxophone player starting in elementary school, she permanently switched to vocals during her time at the University of Pennsylvania as a member of one of the premier collegiate a capella jazz ensembles in America, Counterparts. In addition, Lolita was also a member of gospel and rock groups during this time and developed her signature style of incorporating vocalese and scatting as part of the instrumental ensemble.

FOUR trumpets, FOUR trombones, FIVE saxes and FOUR rhythm! It’s a variable line-up of top-class pro players, who travel in from around Scotland to participate in this outstanding gig. Nowhere else can you hear this standard of regular Big Band playing. Led by saxophonist Keith Edwards, the personnel changes weekly, as does their selection of fantastic arrangements.

Bonzai Quartet bring an infectious mix of earthy, soulful jazz, and lyrical melodies; music to be moved by, music to move to. Led by guitarist Dan Abrahams (The Foo Birds, Dowally, Wayward Jane), and featuring a stellar band with top guitarist Graeme Stephen, bassist Emma Smith and drummer Davide Rinaldi. The unusual line-up of two guitars brings a rare punchiness, with influence from the likes of John Scofield and Bill Frisell. Their debut album ‘Lemon Soul Jelly Roll’ was nominated for Scottish Album of the Year Award 2015 by Jazz Bar founder Bill Kyle.

Classic ‘Hard Bop’ quintet featuring charts by Keith Edwards (sax) and Donald Corbett (trumpet/flugelhorn) with stellar rhythm section of Campbell Normand (piano), Ed Kelly (bass) and Keith Haldane (drums). Their sets include original compositions, gems from British Jazz legends Tubby Hayes and Dundee’s own Jimmy Deuchar, as well as hip US jazzers such as Duke Pearson, Harold Mabern and Cedar Walton.

Cumbiatones is a Psychedelic Cumbia band based in Edinburgh (Scotland). Formed in 2021, Cumbiatones combines tradicional Cumbia rythms from Peru, Argentina and Colombia with rock music psychedelic sounds and energetic riffs that will get the crowd dancing non stop.

Each week a top-drawer piano trio, led by bassist Ed Kelly, is joined by a special guest spot. Saxophonists, guitarists, trumpeters and singers showcase their talents in a broad range of jazz styles. From swing, blues, bossa, trad and modern, this is a variable early-evening session of intimate and enjoyable jazz.

Every Saturday, a different hand-picked selection of five excellent jazz players meets on stage for the first time (hence the name) – to play with no rehearsal, and no set list! Always a fresh line-up.

Hosted by DJ Simon Hodge, with live acts handpicked from the current cream of the Latin scene. Normally held on the last Sunday of each month, award-winning vocalist Ali Affleck brings a fiery New Orleans passion with heavy doses of old-time pop and deep digs into the rarest of trad and blues. Hot roots, blues, prohibition-era jazz, and cheeky Creole tunes from the finest swing bands around. Each month sees both new friends and old; special guests and long-time favourites of the swing dance community.

12am-2am Free THE ANNA VANOSI BAND

Anna Vanosi, who has made a name for herself as an Italian jazz singer in the Edinburgh music scene, brings tonight a brand new neo-soul, pop project. Taking particular influence from Bjork and Celeste, Vanosi and her band, whom she met mostly through jam sessions, are excited to showcase something different.
