Eddie Gripper is an English pianist, composer and educator based in Cardiff, Wales. He joins us at the jazz bar in support of his debut album “Home” along with Ursula Harrison on double bass and Isaac Zuckerman on drums.

Kieran Robinson is a vocalist and instrumentalist making waves in the Edinburgh funk jam scene, quickly making a name for himself with his vocal improvisations and soulful timbre. Comprising four long-term collaborators and friends (thus the ‘family’ tag), the band takes as its starting point the freewheeling music of those musicians who, back in the 1960s, were at the forefront of the free jazz revolution, but whose opening up of jazz’s constraints is now recognised as not a break from the past but an integral part of the music’s development. So the Family Band doesn’t recreate the work of Ornette Coleman and others, but shares its powerful and freewheeling momentum – moments of fierce intensity, introspection and the blues all combining into an emotionally complex and often cathartic whole.

Trumpeter Colin Steele has pulled together a stellar line up of Scotland’s top swing jazz musicians who will be focused on bringing you the swingingest tunes around from the 30’s and 40’s. With decades of experience between them they will plunder their enormous repertoire and will serve up tunes by the likes of Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman and Harry James. Colin is joined in the 2 horn front line by Martin Foster ( clarinet /saxophone) and together with Campbell Normand (piano) Roy Percy (bass) and Jim Drummond (drums) they’ll be serving up the very finest swinging jazz played with panache, vibrancy and freshness.

Echo Hotel is an Edinburgh based fusion collective started by bassist Jonny Richardson. The band consists of Robert Shorthouse McLaughlin (Guitar), Benjamin Counsell (Keys), Finlay Smith (Drum kit) Sam Ward-Hardy (Percussion) and Owen Musgrove (Saxophone). The ensemble brings together an energetic and eclectic mix of backgrounds from jazz, funk, rock, dance music, video game music and world music to name just a few, their material includes something for everyone! Since receiving a warm welcome at their debut show in April 2023 the group are planning more live shows across the central belt including playing the 2023 Meadows Festival.

FOUR trumpets, FOUR trombones, FIVE saxes and FOUR rhythm! It’s a variable line-up of top-class pro players, who travel in from around Scotland to participate in this outstanding gig. Nowhere else can you hear this standard of regular Big Band playing. Led by saxophonist Keith Edwards, the personnel changes weekly, as does their selection of fantastic arrangements.

Keys wizard and soulful vocalist, Mike Kearney (Fender Rhodes), leads brand new quartet, FLEX. Featuring Ben Collard (Drums), Dougie Coulter (Bass) and Harry Higgs (Guitar). Obscure and refreshing 70s and 80s pop/funk covers from Michael McDonald and Steely Dan to Earth Wind and Fire – all the yacht rock classics!

Canadian guitarist Kevin Barrett is well-known to Scottish audiences, having made regular Edinburgh Fringe appearances as Musical Director of Ron Davis’s symphRONica (a BBC 3 favourite) and Daniela Nardi’s ESPRESSO MANIFESTO, and performed with local stars including guitarist Graeme Stephenand drummer Alyn Cosker. Kevin is excited to bring the Kevin Barrett group back to Edinburgh’s renowned Jazz Bar. Reflecting a wide range of experience and influence, featuring inspired compositions and dynamic interpretations of jazz and pop classics, it will be an evening not to be missed!
